10.0 Conclusions

Basic principles of physics and chemistry provide the basis for understanding process instrumentation, while the selection of the proper equipment depends on the needs of the specific application.  This section has introduced many of the more common instruments used in the process industries.  The material in this section provides the reader with sufficient understanding to begin industrial practice but should not be used for industrial practice; reliable and up-to-date information on process instrumentation is available from equipment manufacturers and professional societies.  The ISA data sheets (ISA, 1992) provide a helpful checklist of the information needed when specifying equipment in preparation for interactions with equipment suppliers.
